World Series Final Game Draws Over 50 Million Viewers Across the US, Canada and Japan Markets.

The thrilling 11-inning matchup where the Dodgers defeat the Blue Jays 5-4 drew a total 51M spectators in the United States, Canada, and Japanese markets. MLB announced this marks the most-watched Fall Classic Game 7 after the 1991 showdown between the Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Broadcast Ratings Details

Last Saturday’s epic contest drew 27.33 million viewers on Fox Sports channels, its Spanish-language channel and their streaming platforms. Per Nielsen, it was the second highest-rated broadcast of the previous week.

It also is the most-watched Fall Classic matchup after the 2017 Game 7 involving the Los Angeles Dodgers and Astros, which averaged 29.07 million. This marks a sixteen percent increase compared to the last finale between the Washington Nationals and Houston Astros, which drew 23.19 million.

In the Nielsen ratings, the sixth game placed fourth, Game 4 ranked seventh, Game 5 was eighth, and Game 3 landed in thirteenth position.

International Audience Numbers

In the Canadian market, the climactic game drew 11.6M watchers on the Sportsnet network and the French TVA Sports channel. This made it the highest-rated English-language program in Canada since the 2010 Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the deciding game started at 9 PM in the local time zone, it drew 12 million. This came after the previous Friday’s sixth game – in which Fall Classic Most Valuable Player Yoshinobu Yamamoto allowed one run in six innings – recorded over 13 million viewers, making it the most-watched World Series game on a single network in the country.

Series Totals and Trends

The entire seven-match series averaged 15.71 million audience members on Fox, a two percent increase from the previous year’s Dodgers versus Yankees series. This marks the first time since 2015 and 2016 that the World Series has recorded viewership growth for two straight years.

Counting the opening game telecast on the Univision network, the complete US average reached over 16 million. The total Fall Classic viewership in Japan was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in the Canadian market.

The complete playoffs on Fox and its sister channels recorded 8.09M viewers, an 8% increase compared to the previous year and Fox’s strongest postseason ratings after the 2017 season.

Major League Baseball reported that the World Series was televised in 203 nations and regions by 44 media partners in sixteen various languages.
